John Barnes
While currently retired, the process employed by John Barnes to create these beautiful glass vases involved dipping a blowpipe into a pot of molten glass, reaching temperatures around 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit, and gathering glass onto the blowpipe. Once the glass and pipe were removed from the furnace, Barnes then blew through the pipe to expand the molten glass into a thick bubble. Additional glass was then added to this bubble along with colors. This method is one of the oldest techniques, dating back approximately 2,000 years, and requires both skill and patience to craft each unique piece.
